Junior Presentation a Huge Success

By NEPL Editor

Youngsters from across the North East Premier League were bowled over after picking up awards at this year's North East Premier League Junior Awards night.

The night hosted by Burnopfield Cricket Club celebrated the achievements of young cricketers based on NEPL Cup performances during the summer.

The evening included a quiz and and question-and-answer session with Durham
cricketer Matthew Potts. Potts who made his first class debut last summer, spoke with the youngsters about his experience breaking into the first team this past summer.

Each club nominated three players at under-11, under-13 and under-15 level based on their performances in NEPL cup games.

From the nominations an overall player of the season for each age group was chosen along with 2nd and 3rd place awards.

Hetton Lyons (Under 11s), Burnopfield (Under 13s), Eppleton & Burnopfield (Under 15s Plaque), Boldon (Under 15s Cup) and Chester le Street (Under 15s Shield) all picked up trophies for winning their respective age-group cups.

Third place at under-11s went to Mason Bell from Whitburn with the runner up award going to Nathan Bushby of Eppleton Cricket Club. The overall under-11s player of the season went to Owen Hayton of Hetton Lyons Cricket Club for scoring 126 runs in four innings with a best of 44* against Felling.

Eppleton's Edward Brown took the third place award at under-13s level with the runner up award going to Matthew Sheppard of South Shields Cricket Club. Tom Bolam took the overall player of the season honours for scoring 101 runs in the competition and combined bowling figures of 6-15.

In the under-15s section it was Will Perry of Tynemouth Cricket Club with the award, after he scored 200 runs in four innings including scores of 94 and 91. South Shields player Adam May was runner up after he scored 150 runs in 4 innings while the overall under-15s player of the season was Chester le Street's Ollie Barrett who was impressive with the ball in the Shield Final bagging 7/15, while Ollie also scored 130 runs in fours innings.

A great night had by all who attended. Thanks to all at Burnopfield CC for hosting the evening and for providing such delicious food.

Thanks also go to Matthew Potts for coming along - his question and answer session was very informative and inspirational for all future NEPL cricketers.
