South Northumberland took national honours for the second year running after being crowned ECB National Club T20 Winners on Monday.

The 2017 North East Premier Division Winners progressed into the ECB Club T20 after winning the North East Premier League T20 back in July.

In the Quarter Final they overcame Sandicare Town Cricket Club of the Derbyshire County League by 7 runs to earn their place in the National Finals.

This year's ECB National T20 Finals were hosted by Derbyshire CCC at the 3aaa County Ground.

In the Semi Final South Northumberland took on C&R Hawks Cricket Club of the Birmingham Premier League. Due to rain the match was reduced to 16 overs aside with South Northumberland being inserted after losing the toss. The Bulls posted 139/4 from 16 overs with John Graham top scoring with an unbeaten 56 from 38 balls including three 4s and four sixes while Simon Birtwisle added 43 at the top of the order.

In reply the Gosforth side started brightly, to dismiss Hawks opener for 0, as he was run out shortly followed by Humble trapping Mubeen Rashid LBW for 3. Omar Ali top scored with 47 but frequent wickets for the Bulls saw them home by 17 runs. Lee Crozier (2-18), Stephen Humble (2-23) and Jonathan Wightman (2-24) all bagged 2 while Craigs and Birtwisle picked up apiece.

In the Final South Northumberland took on Surrey Premier Division side Wimbledon Cricket Club. South Northumberland lost the toss again, with Wimbledon electing to bat.

Wimbledon lost two quick wickets as Jonathan Wightman struck early, finding themselves 32/2 from 4 overs but 11 from the 5th over took them to 43/2 from 5. Scoring 52/2 from the first powerplay.

Two quick wickets from Humble had South Northumberland back into the game with Wimbledon 81/5. A lower order collapse from Wimbledon saw the Surrey side bowled out for 117 as Wightman picked up 3/18 and Birtwisle (3/23). Marcus North struck with 2/20 while Craigs and Humble both bagged 1.

Simon Birtwisle top scored for the Bulls with 47 from 46 balls backed by 37 from Rob Peyton. Marcus North added 16 from 17 balls as South Northumberland chased the total down with 4 balls remaining.
