A high-scoring thriller at Jesmond was the exception to a weekend of low-scoring fixtures in the second round of the Banks Salver.

Kyle Coetzer made the difference as Benwell Hill (226/9) beat Newcastle (223/10) by 3 runs in a close game at Jesmond, scoring a half-century and taking 3 wickets.

South Northumberland’s bowlers kept Blaydon down to 159/9 from their 40 overs, before Christopher Hewison’s unbeaten 81 from 69 balls secured their 7-wicket victory.

Felling made 172 against Tynemouth at High Heworth Lane, thanks to a second consecutive half-century from Dale Shaw, and Jake Louth took 4/22 as the visitors were bowled out for 141 in reply.

Matthew Collins took 3/25 as Ashington bowled Gateshead Fell out for 114, before captain Sean McCafferty scored 58 from 38 balls to see them home with 22 overs to spare.

In the East Group, Karl Turner performed with bat and ball as Hetton Lyons beat Boldon by 8 wickets. Turner took 6/11 and then made 50 from 56 balls in the run chase, seeing his team home with 18 overs to spare.

Philadelphia made 147/6 in their rain-affected game against Burnmoor, but Ross Greenwell’s unbeaten 49 from 67 balls helped the visitors to a 6-wicket victory.

At Church Road, Eppleton bowled Sunderland out for 103, despite a patient 55 from Daniel Shurben. Robert Talbot took 3/31 and Jake Pratt top-scored with 35 as Eppleton won by 5 wickets.

In the West Group, Adam Khan made 64 from 104 balls as Willington chased 188 to beat Sacriston with only 8 balls to spare.

Crook were 78 all out against Burnopfield, Tom Bolam taking 4/19, and despite Steve Chapman’s spell (3/15), they lost by 4 wickets.

There were also wickets for Adam (3/20) and Liam Hickey (4/25) as Washington bowled Lanchester out for 99 and chased it inside 18 overs, winning by 7 wickets.
