John Smithson elected NEPL Chairman

John Smithson has been elected unanimously by the League Management Committee as to be the new Chairman of the NEPL, succeeding Keith Robson who passed away on 1 November.

John has been a Club Representative on the Committee since the League doubled in size in 2013. He has sat on various Sub-Committees during this time including Match Play and Registration and has also been the team manager of the League’s representative side.

John has been Director of Cricket at Eppleton Cricket Club since 2009 and so is responsible for all senior cricket at the club.. He is a junior coach and looks after the under 18s team. John played cricket at Eppleton, Chester le Street. South Hetton, Silksworth and Leadgate and represented the north of England U15s and played 2nd XI cricket for Northamptonshire County Cricket Club.

John added “It is a real honour to be elected Chairman of the NEPL. I have certainly enjoyed the last seven years as part of the League Management Committee and I look forward to hopefully getting back to normal as soon as possible when we can all meet and enjoy playing competitive cricket”
